On January 13, 2022, the PVHS swim team competed against Owen J. Roberts at PVHS. The score for the boys team was 82-95 in favor of OJR and the girls score was 68-103, also in favor of OJR.
Despite the loss for PV, there were many close, exciting races that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats cheering for their swimmers.
“I was counting for my friend Elyse and she swam super, super well. She had just finished the 100 fly a couple of minutes beforehand, so she was already tired. But even through that she kept going and managed to PR with a sub-6 minute time,” Cooper Demark, boys swim team captain and a senior at PV, said.
The 500-meter freestyle is a long-distance event with 20 straight laps of freestyle. Swimmers at each end of the pool encouraged the swimmers in each lane.
By far, the most impactful aspect of this meet, and other meets in the season, is the overall supportiveness and positive energy that the swimmers spread to their teammates.
“Personally, the team spirit is what keeps me going. It is what motivates me to swim faster and push myself every day at practice. I feel like we all motivate each other to keep persevering through the tough sets, close races, and tiredness after hard practices,” Olivia Palubinski, girls swim team captain and a senior at PV, said.
