Senior Spotlight on Athletics: Open-minded and Fun

PV class of 2019.  Arizona State class of 2023.  Track star Christina Warren is taking her talent Southwest.

Track isn’t the only thing Christina is known for.  She’s a stellar academic, homecoming and prom queen, and also an amazing friend.

Kylie McDonnell said “[She] is one of my best friends, she has…the ability to make you laugh and smile no matter the circumstances.  A total ray of sunshine. I love that girl endlessly.” Obviously, Kylie wasn’t the only person Christina wooed, as she won the title of homecoming queen this past fall.

Christina is also devoted to her schoolwork.  Christina’s academics made her a double-threat.  Her favorite teacher was Dr. Gelman. Her favorite class was biotechnology, which she took at the tech school.  She consistently made honor roll. After college, she hopes to work in research related to cancer. Balancing schoolwork and extracurriculars is never easy, but she made it seem that way.

Of course, Christina’s biggest claim to fame are her amazing track abilities.  She’s a three time PIAA triple-jump champion and a state gold medalist in 100-meter hurdles. At this years Penn Relays, Warren came in fourth place in triple-jump, with a mark of 12.61 meters.  Christina got started in track when she was a toddler after seeing the Olympics. She says the sport has taught her how every ounce of effort counts for something. Her coach describes her as “intense” and a champion.  Christina will be continuing her track career at Arizona State University in the fall.

Track helped Christina enjoy high school.  Her favorite memory is the first state championships she went to.  The lessons she learned on the track she also applied to school. She says track taught her “delayed gratification” which she carried over into her work.  She made her best friends through track also. She describes herself as “open-minded, fun, and determined,” which anyone who knows her can easily confirm.

Christina’s advice to underclassmen is “Have fun, be honest, and follow your heart and intuition.”  Whether your focus is sports, music, or school, do what you want with pride and with a smile, and you will always take the gold.
