LAX and Headstrong Help Kids with Cancer

The Headstrong Foundation is an association that helps children with cancer by setting up donations and fundraisers. The Perkiomen Valley boys lacrosse team actively takes part in the foundation.

The team rejoined the foundation last year by pledging their entire season to the cause. For each ground ball the team got during a game, a parent or other sponsor would make a donation. Varsity head coach, Mr.Churchey said,” For every ground ball the boys would pledge they would donate a cent, 5 cents, 10 cents, 25 cents, etc. for every ground ball we picked up.”

At the end of last year’s season the team raised almost $3,000. The money could be used to help cancer patients. The foundations’ mission is to help people affected by cancer. The foundation website says, “We support cancer patients and their families with peer support, comfort kits, financial help and lodging for families who have no place to stay while in the Philadelphia area.”

The players also play a huge part with the foundation, and by spreading the word about the charity they help raise awareness and create opportunities to raise even more funds. One player, Justin Coates said,” As a player we spread the word about the cause and our part in it. For example on Instagram #headstrong was going around other players.”

The team’s season starts up in the spring, where spectators can view Coach Churchey and his team play. To donate, go to or see Coach Churchey.
