COLLEGEVILLE- September 20, 2019: Perkiomen Valley broke Owen J. Roberts’ winning streak of 4-0 in a tense game this Friday night with a superior defensive effort led by Matt Brock and Jake Sterling that won them the game 16-9.
The Vikings scored their first home win with the overwhelming support from their student section as they faced the OJR Wildcats on a cool night in the Thomas J. Keenan Stadium.
Varsity QB Ethan Kohler, with an overall of 214 passing yards per game, proudly stated, “I think our defense played very well tonight and were key to us winning the game.”
The first two quarters of the game were very close, with PV scoring the first TD with 4:40 left in the first quarter, and OJR scoring their own TD at only 4:24. In the second quarter, OJR got a field goal, putting them up 9-6. From there, the Vikings scored another TD in the third quarter, putting them at 13-9, and another field goal in the fourth that won them the game 16-9. A highlighted offensive player that assisted PV in getting the win is Jacob Sturm with 133 rush yards on 13 carries.
Kohler thought that, “Our lineman and run game was good,”, but it could be better.
“We still have a lot of work to do and put in as a team in the future” stated Kohler.
Coach Heist agrees that there is room for improvement, put he’s proud of the work his team has put in this year and is optimistic for this season.
Heist states, “As we do each week, we will embrace our growth mindset and do our best to learn from the things that did go wrong on Friday night so that we are playing our best football as the season continues to progress. Viking Strong.”
OJR now has a record of 4-1 and plays Boyertown next, while PV has a record of 3-2 and will be playing Norristown next Friday. Both teams entered this game with their best foot forward and could possibly play each other again soon in the playoffs.
